Measure your total testosterone levels to optimize your health

Your testosterone levels could be interfering with your goals for a healthier, happier life. Testosterone is responsible for many essential characteristics and functions within the male body. This testosterone blood test can help you determine if your testosterone level is within the normal range for your age.

By measuring the total level of testosterone in your body, you can identify any factors that might interfere with sex drive (libido), bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass or production of red blood cells and sperm.

Explore our Comprehensive Testosterone Test to get a fuller picture of your testosterone status with key  components such as sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), albumin, total and free testosterone.

Note: This total testosterone level test is only clinically appropriate for individuals assigned male at birth (AMAB). If you are an individual assigned female at birth (AFAB) seeking a testosterone test, you should contact your healthcare provider.

FAQ

  • A total testosterone test is used to measure the amount of testosterone in the blood. A testosterone levels test may be used to help understand the cause of symptoms associated with high or low testosterone. It can also be used to monitor your testosterone health especially if you have made lifestyle changes to address abnormal testosterone levels.

  • You should test your total testosterone if you are experiencing symptoms associated with abnormal testosterone levels.

  • If you are experiencing low testosterone levels, you may also be feeling:

    • Changes in sexual function
    • Lower or absent sex drive
    • Physical changes, including increased body fat, reduced muscle strength and decreased bone density
    • Emotional changes or changes in mood
    • Difficulties with concentration and memory 4,5
  • The frequency of testing depends on your health status and if you are experiencing symptoms associated with low testosterone. Your provider may recommend repeat testing or additional tests to learn more about what may be causing your symptoms and/or the change in your testosterone level.

Any abnormal results should be followed up with your healthcare provider to determine next steps.

  • Your testing will be performed in a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory. Labcorp provides leading-edge medical laboratory tests and services through a national network of primary clinical laboratories and specialty testing laboratories. Our labs perform regular quality assurance testing to ensure our results are accurate.

  • Your results will be provided to you through our secure online portal to view or print. Results are also provided to PWNHealth, which provides professional healthcare provider services for OnDemand tests. If you are accessing your results through your Labcorp Patient account, all users linked to the account will have access to all OnDemand test results. Results may also be provided to a local, state, or federal health authority, but only when legally required. For example, many states require the testing laboratory and healthcare provider to report test results for certain communicable diseases, such as sexually transmitted diseases or COVID-19, to local or state health departments.
