Creatinine

A muscle-produced waste product filtered out by the kidneys.
Albumin (Urine)

The main protein that circulates in the blood, which provides tissue nourishment, carries substances (such as hormones and drugs) in the blood and helps keep fluids within the blood vessels.
Albumin-Creatinine Ratio

A calculation that divides the amount of albumin measured in the urine by the urine creatinine level to correct for urine concentration.
Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR)

A calculation (factored from your serum creatinine level, age, and gender) used to determine your level of kidney function; the higher your eGFR number, the better your kidneys are working; low eGFR test results may be a sign of kidney disease.

FAQ

Understanding your estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is crucial for assessing kidney health and function. eGFR testing is a vital tool in early detection and management of kidney disease, which often progresses silently without noticeable symptoms until advanced stages.

A normal estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) range may vary depending on an individual’s age and sex. An eGFR number greater than 90 is usually considered within the normal range, while 60-89 may indicate early-stage kidney disease. Numbers lower than 60 may indicate kidney disease or failure. However, in senior adults (i.e., those aged 60 or older), lower eGFR numbers, such as 85, are more common.³
According to the National Kidney Foundation, the top signs of kidney disease include⁴:

Fatigue
Difficulty sleeping
Dry, itchy skin
Blood in urine
Change in urination
Puffiness around the eyes
Swelling in the feet and ankles
Decreased appetite
Muscle cramps

If you have symptoms consistent with kidney disease, be sure to talk to your primary healthcare provider for evaluation and next steps.
CKD often begins without causing any obvious symptoms. If detected and treated early, you can help slow or even stop CKD from getting worse.

People with certain risk factors have a higher risk of developing CKD and should consider testing their kidney health.²

According to the National Kidney Foundation, the most common CKD risk factors are:

Diabetes
High blood pressure
Heart disease and/or heart failure
Obesity (having a body mass index or BMI of 30 or more)
Over the age of 60
Family history of CKD or kidney failure
Personal history of acute kidney injury (AKI)
Smoking and/or use of tobacco products
Your results will be provided to you through our secure online portal to view or print. Results are also made available through a secure portal to the independent healthcare provider who placed your test order. If you are accessing your results through your Labcorp Patient™ account, all users linked to the account will have access to all OnDemand test results. Results may also be provided to a local, state, and/or federal health authority; for example, many states require the testing laboratory and physician to report test results for certain communicable diseases, such as COVID-19, to local or state health departments.
