Metabolic Vulnerability Index (MVX) Test

Explore metabolic health with advanced biomarker testing.

Your metabolism plays a vital role in how your body uses nutrients, maintains energy, and supports normal body functions. Changes in metabolic patterns can occur over time due to aging, lifestyle habits, nutrition, and other factors.

The Metabolic Vulnerability Index (MVX) Test is an advanced metabolic health blood test that measures key biomarkers associated with inflammation, nutritional status, and metabolic function. Using NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) technology, the test evaluates six biomarkers, including branched-chain amino acids, citrate, GlycA, and small HDL particles to generate an overall Metabolic Vulnerability Index (MVX) score. The test also provides two related scores: the Inflammation Vulnerability Index (IVX) and the Metabolic Malnutrition Index (MMX).

Note: The MVX Test is not intended to diagnose, predict, or monitor a specific disease. This test is intended to provide health information and should not be used alone to make healthcare decisions. Results should always be interpreted by a healthcare professional within the context of your personal health history and other clinical findings.

What's Tested
  • Metabolic Vulnerability Index (MVX)

The Metabolic Vulnerability Index (MVX) is a calculated score based on multiple metabolic biomarkers measured through NMR technology. It combines information from inflammatory and nutritional markers to provide a broader picture of biomarker patterns related to metabolism and inflammation.

  • Inflammation Vulnerability Index (IVX)

The Inflammation Vulnerability (IVX) score is derived from GlycA and small HDL particle measurements. This score summarizes information from biomarkers associated with inflammation and may provide additional context about inflammatory patterns measured by the test.

  • Metabolic Malnutrition Index (MMX)

The Metabolic Malnutrition Index (MMX) score is calculated using citrate and the branched-chain amino acids: valine, leucine, and isoleucine. These biomarkers are involved in nutrient metabolism, energy production, and protein utilization. Changes in these levels may reflect differences in metabolic patterns and nutritional status.

FAQ

  • MVX stands for Metabolic Vulnerability Index. It is a calculated score generated from multiple blood-based biomarkers measured using NMR technology. The score is designed to provide insight into patterns related to metabolism, nutritional status, and inflammation.

  • The Metabolic Malnutrition Index (MMX) is one of the scores included in the MVX Test. It is calculated using citrate and branched-chain amino acid results and is intended to reflect biomarker patterns related to metabolism and nutritional status.

  • The MVX Test provides a score from 1 to 100 that combines information from several biomarkers related to metabolism, nutrition, longevity, and inflammation. The score is intended to provide a broad view of metabolic vulnerability and risk of mortality at the time of testing. Scores represent a snapshot in time and may be influenced by multiple factors, including age, nutritional status, metabolic health, and inflammatory processes.

In general, lower scores indicate lower metabolic vulnerability, while higher scores indicate greater metabolic vulnerability relative to the populations studied. Because many factors can influence metabolism, your results should be interpreted with your healthcare provider alongside your medical history, lifestyle, age, and other health information. The MVX score is not designed to diagnose, confirm, or rule out any specific medical condition and should be reviewed with a healthcare provider. Results can change over time and should not be viewed as a complete picture of your health.

  • Each score is calculated from the biomarkers measured in the test and provides a different view of the information included in your results:

MVX is the overall score from biomarkers associated with inflammation, metabolism, and nutritional status.

IVX summarizes information from biomarkers associated with inflammation.

MMX summarizes information from biomarkers associated with metabolism and nutritional status.

  • There is no single biomarker or risk score that determines longevity. Research suggests that healthy aging is influenced by multiple factors, including physical activity, nutrition, metabolic health, inflammation, sleep quality, and overall lifestyle habits. The MVX Test is designed to bring several metabolic measurements together into one assessment rather than relying on a single marker.2,3

  • There is no universally accepted "best" test for longevity. Different tests evaluate various aspects of health. Health and aging are influenced by many factors, including genetics, lifestyle, medical history, and environmental factors. The MVX Test provides information about select biomarkers related to metabolism, nutritional status, and inflammation, which can be reviewed as part of a broader conversation with your healthcare provider.

  • A metabolic health blood test provides information about how your body's metabolic systems are functioning. Depending on the test, results may offer insight into energy metabolism, inflammation, nutritional patterns, and other health-related factors. The MVX Test specifically combines multiple biomarkers into scores designed to provide a broader view of metabolic health.

  • Metabolic health is often evaluated using multiple measures, including:

    • Blood glucose
    • Cholesterol and lipid levels
    • Blood pressure
    • Weight and waist circumference
    • Specialized metabolic biomarkers

An MVX Test can provide additional insight into metabolic health by measuring biomarkers associated with inflammation and nutritional status.
