Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease that’s caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV). Anyone who has not had chickenpox or gotten the chickenpox vaccine can get the disease. Symptoms include itchy, blister-like rashes that can spread across your body. Although the chickenpox vaccine is widely accessible today, chickenpox is still a concern and knowing your immunity status can give you and your community peace of mind. This chickenpox test can determine your immunity to VZV from either past infection or vaccination.

Not everyone can receive the chickenpox vaccine due to health conditions.

If you’re not sure whether you have varicella (chickenpox) immunity, a chickenpox test may be right for you. Taking a chickenpox immunity test will let you know if you have developed antibodies against the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) in response to a prior chickenpox infection or vaccination. You can discuss your test results with your provider to determine whether and when you should consider another vaccination to maintain your immunity.
Your testing will be performed in a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory. Your results will be provided to you through our secure online portal to view or print. Results are also provided to PWNHealth, which provides professional healthcare provider services for OnDemand tests. If you are accessing your results through your Labcorp Patient account, all users linked to the account will have access to all OnDemand test results. Results may also be provided to a local, state, or federal health authority, but only when legally required. For example, many states require the testing laboratory and healthcare provider to report test results for certain communicable diseases, such as sexually transmitted diseases or COVID-19, to local or state health departments.
